A few recent quantum news headlines worth recapping:

  • SEALSQ announced a strategic investment in EeroQ from the former’s $35 million SEALQUANTUM.com investment fund. Taking a stake in a Chicago-based quantum hardware company looks to be the latest step in the Swiss company’s “Quantum Made in USA” expansion strategy, which it discussed with QNN back in October. This is at least the third start-up investment for SEALSQ’s fund following an investment last February in quantum-as-a-service company ColibriTD and the more recent acquisition of IC’ALPS. EeroQ has been on the quantum scene for at least eight years, and recently completed construction of a 9,600-square-foot quantum R&D facility in Chicago.
  • IonQ, through subsidiary ID Quantique (IDQ), announced the deployment of Slovakia’s first national quantum communication network, a move which we can count as the latest step in IonQ’s Europe expansion effort. The press release announcing the deployment stated, “Developed in partnership with the Institute of Physics, Slovak Academy of Sciences (IPSAS), the new system features a resilient hybrid architecture designed to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure and support Europe’s quantum digital programs… The Slovak Quantum Communication Infrastructure (skQCI) project represents a major milestone in Slovakia’s contribution to the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) initiative, which seeks to establish a secure quantum-resistant communication backbone covering all European Union (EU) member states and territories. By integrating quantum-safe technologies at a national scale, Slovakia will directly reinforce the security of its most critical institutions.”
  • Pasqal recently made its neutral-atom quantum computing platform available through Scaleway’s cloud. It’s still more evidence that quantum computing is really ramping up in Europe of late, as the pairing of the two French companies will expand cloud availability of Pasqal’s quantum hardware to more European users. Pascal’s quantum computer previously has been available through the Amazon Braket, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure quantum cloud services, as well as Pasqal’s own cloud.
