The quantum sector is buzzing again about the possibility that the Trump administration is getting closer to issuing its long-awaited Executive Order on quantum.
Nextgov/FCW’s Alexandra Kelley had the scoop yesterday, with a story stating that the site had obtained a draft document titled, “Ushering In The Next Frontier Of Quantum Innovation.” Read the story at Nextgov/FCW for more details, but it outlines something that sounds a lot like the multi-department, multi-discipline marshalling of forces (quantum computing, quantum sensing, quantum-safe security) that was reported by Cyberscoop and others to be in the works about five months ago.
The Nextgov/FCW story seemed to set the quantum sector’s PR machines in motion yesterday, as multiple companies told QNN they have reaction comments at the ready if/when the White House actually finally issues this EO.
The latest news arrives amid a renewed push to get Congress to do something about the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act (NQIRA). Paul Dabbar, Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Friend of Quantum, said in November that the administration was urging Congress to act on the Act. Dabbar reportedly is a key player behind the EO as well, which is not surprising.
More recently, Nvidia just last week put out its own appeal for Congress to do something on the NQIRA front, publishing a blog post that got into some specifics about including support for quantum digital twins, quantum-AI integration, benchmarking, and more.
That’s all for now, but a quantum EO is looking maybe, possibly, closer than ever to reality.
